MIXED MARTIAL ARTS CLASSES

MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, is a discipline that combines techniques from various disciplines such as boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and judo. In MMA, fighters use a combination of striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, to defeat their opponents.

When You Join Our MMA Classes...

So you’re thinking about joining our Mixed Martial Arts classes? You’ve come to the right place.

Coach Owen King has served as the Head striking coach for professional MMA fighters such as UFC’s "Judo" Jimmy Wallhead, Andre Winner and Jay Silva.

But don't let that intimidate you because everyone is welcome to join our martial arts gym in Nottingham. Whether you're a complete beginner or experienced in the sport.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s no physical contact during these sessions. More advanced students can take part in sparring. Of course, that’s dependent on their level of skill and experience

We split our MMA classes into two individual classes. This helps us focus better on different aspects of the sport because MMA is so diverse.

  • MMA (clinch-work & takedowns) - Clinch-work in MMA involves close grappling to control opponents and set up strikes or takedowns. Takedowns are techniques to bring opponents to the ground for dominance or grappling manoeuvres. Both are key in MMA, demanding strength and strategy.

  • MMA (Stand-up / Striking) - Stand-up striking in MMA focuses on striking techniques delivered while standing, including punches, kicks, elbows, and knees. It emphasizes striking accuracy, timing, and footwork to effectively land strikes and evade opponents' attacks. Stand-up striking is a fundamental aspect of MMA, requiring skill, agility, and versatility in delivering and defending against various striking techniques.

What Should I Wear For MMA?

For MMA classes, it’s important to wear comfy, baggy trousers, joggers or shorts. Women can wear leggings and need a supportive sports bra.

It helps to ensure your fingernails and toenails are short when learning clinch work and takedowns.

Make sure there are no zips or unnecessary buttons on any item for safety reasons. Tie back long hair and bring a water bottle to keep hydrated – you’re going to need it.

If you have your own gloves or hand wraps, please bring them along, but if you don’t, you can borrow ours.
